Social Media Marketing Metrics in 2010
http://blog.slideshare.net/2009/12/28/social-media-marketing-metrics-in-2010/
As Chief Marketing Officers develop their social media marketing strategy for 2010, they are demanding business results. That’s the message from a CMO Group/Bazzarvoice survey,
In 2009, 89% of CMOs tracked social media’s impact by using standard metrics such as site traffic, pageviews, and number of fans. However, CMOs expect that in 2010 top metrics will track more closely to P&L business goals––not just Web-related goals. The study forecasts the growth of adoption of the top three metrics in 2010, as follows:
* A 333% increase in tracking revenue
* A 174% increase in tracking conversion
* A 150% increase in tracking average order value
Such a shift in measurement expectation is significant. CMOs indicate a 300% year-over-year increase in 2010 in the number of companies that plan to measure social media’s impact on conversion and a 400% increase in the number of companies that will track social media’s direct impact on revenues.
The 2009’s financial crisis probably did social media some good. Not that you need a ton of budget, but when competing for scarce budget alongside more traditional projects is a creative constraint. As social media marketing matures, it will become a facet of marketing overall and it will be harder to spot a campaign that isn’t social. Part of that maturing is you can’t manage what you can’t measure. Part of it driving activity that drives traditional metrics, like how you can drive conversions with LeadShare.
Social media marketers should get ahead of this curve. If you know you will eventually be accountable for traditional metrics, start iterating as soon as you can to find models that work. And volunteer to report these metrics before they are volunteered to you. This will require that you actively engage other parts of the marketing organization and give them stakeholdership in your outcomes. Take a look at your 2010 campaigns, reconsider your metrics, and incrementally realign your activities with the core of the marketing function.

Wow, what a year so far. Time flies, and business is flying around faster.
Once again it’s time to make a few adjustments to the business model that we can all stay sane around here.
The good news is, we are about to “Move The Fr…ee Line”.
Do you know what that means?
(FR…EE is our way of spelling the price $0 without being considered spam. Just go with it.)
It means we will be giving away more fr…eee stuff, because we know that when we offer more fr…eee stuff more people sign up, more people take the time to learn, and when it REALLY REALLY counts, more people hire us to solve their marketing problems.
Right now we are enrolling clients for the social media marketing package faster than lightening. We’ve brought on a few new assistants to help us with data entry and updates. Our web design department is over loaded with requests, but happily plugging away at some of the most beautiful and UP-TO-DATE looking websites that I’ve ever seen.
Here are a few samples of our website work:

The Fr…ee Line Has Moved:
I wonder if other people say they are “going green” just to save on printing costs. Well, regardless, we are going green and saving on printing costs.
LTC Expert Publications LLC is now completely digital in a digital age.
I do maintain that seniors love reading the mail, and YOU should have some form of print media (ie newsletter) sent out each month.
So, what’s fr…eee? Risky for us, but now everything at our newsletter level is fr…eee. And yes, if you are a current subscriber, we are turning off the billing. It’s all fr…eee!
You can sign up for our private membership website for fr…eee , gain access for fr…eee, see all of our materials for fr…eee, and roll around in it to your hearts content. But please give a moment to get everyone enrolled. It’s fr…eee so give us a small break on getting you registered.

If You Own a Senior Service Business- Pay Close Attention.
Interesting Facts:
70% to 80% of consumers’ clicks still happen within natural search results. (iCrossing). Search spending totaled more than $13.5-billion in 08, 88% of that spent on paid search/pay per click advertising. (SEMPO, Search Engine Marketing Professional Organization).
So, even though, 70%+ of traffic comes from organic search, business is only devoting 12% of its resources to that, 88% to pay-per-click. YOU can be smarter!
Knowing how to attract your ideal customers from their own active search activity gives you enormous advantage!

Seniors as Entrepreneurs: Their Time Has Come!
Great article at business week about seniors opening their own businesses and getting back in the mix:
http://www.businessweek.com/smallbiz/content/jun2009/sb2009068_927403.htm?chan=smallbiz_smallbiz+index+page_top+small+business+stories
Economic volatility plus more boomer retirees have moved the starting age for startups and led to a surge of senior-run businesses.
“In recent years, the number of individuals starting their own businesses during what is usually considered the “retirement years” has been rising, according to economists and small-business observers. And so has the age at which they are starting their own ventures: According to the nonprofit AARP Public Policy Institute, in 2008, 21% of the self-employed were between 55 and 64, while 10% were 65 and older. Of course, not every self-employed senior is an entrepreneur, but experts believe the stock market’s recent brutalization of retirement accounts will prod additional older Americans to start their own businesses. ”
Marketing Home Care: Have You Ever Thought About a Niche in Internet Communications? Or….
I found this article in the New York Times online. Interesting take on seniors using the internet to stay connected, especially those who are homebound perhaps, but able to easily communicate and contribute given the opportunity. I would encourage everyone to read this important article. Which gives me an idea—I think we just found our next territory exclusive program for home care providers and maybe even some reverse mortgage professionals out there.

Like many older people, Paula Rice of Island City, Ky., has grown isolated in recent years. Her four grown children live in other states, her two marriages ended in divorce, and her friends are scattered. Most days, she does not see another person.
FAR FROM LONELY Paula Rice, 73, had been “dying of boredom” before discovering social networking sites. She spends up to 14 hours a day on the sites. But Ms. Rice, 73, is far from lonely. Housebound after suffering a heart attack two years ago, she began visiting the social networking sites Eons.com, an online community for aging baby boomers, and PoliceLink.com (she is a former police dispatcher). Now she spends up to 14 hours a day in online conversations.
“I was dying of boredom,” she said. “Eons, all by its lonesome, gave me a reason to keep on going.”

Elder Care Marketers: What is a lead nurturing strategy? Do you have one in place?
Elder Care Entrepreneurs and Senior Service Marketers,
The article below talks about nurturing leads from a B to B perspective, but all of us can learn a lot here. The same rules apply (with a little less techincal jargon) when marketing B to C (business to consumer, um that’s what YOU do). You have to nurture both new and old leads to make a difference in your bottom line.
Having a very well put together email automation system (and you can get a great one here for $17.00 bucks per month) is essential. It’s called an autoresponder. Set up the emails and e-newsletters now, nurture your leads for life. Increase your business.
There’s more to “nurturing a lead” of course than just email autoresponders, but let’s take it in baby steps- get this one set up, and we move on from there.
Here’s the article below originally found at: http://www.demandgenreport.com/home/archives/feature-articles/229-climate-heightens-need-for-nurturing-to-match-the-new-btob-buying-processes.html
Considering the current business climate, it is hard to fathom that less than 10% of marketers are capitalizing on one of their biggest opportunities to drive new business, but that is the unfortunate reality. We conducted a survey of marketing executives back in December of 2008 and found that only 8% of respondents currently had automated lead nurturing strategies and processes in place.
While it can be argued that the small percentage of organizations using lead nurturing is consistent with the low adoption rate of marketing automation systems, another stat which was even more eye-opening was that only 15% of respondents planned to deploy or expand their automated lead nurturing efforts in 2009. This represents a huge missed opportunity for organizations as lead nurturing has really become a required part of the selling process in today’s business landscape.
The notion that any prospect that clicks through an email campaign or downloads a white paper is ready for immediate sales follow-up is out of date. For those companies still practicing this uninformed, unresponsive type of outreach, they are hindering their revenue generation and also making a bad first impression on prospects.
Sophisticated organizations have realized that the buying process has changed dramatically over the past five years. Instances where a single executive will respond to a campaign and then own the vendor selection process all the way through the buying cycle are extremely rare. It is now more common that there are several different areas of an organization involved in the buying cycle—from finance to IT to operations as so on—and smart marketers will have touch points and content that speak to all of their pain points and concerns.
