It is important to remember that each and every person is unique. People have different demands, occupations, and social lives. One counseling approach may not work for another. Moreover, additional counseling may be needed through rehabilitation counselors, social workers, or psychologists.
It is important to understand counseling under guidelines from America’s Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA) and American Academy of Audiology. One, we must respect professional boundaries. In other words, don’t try to give marriage counseling. Two, we must understand are differences between professional and nonprofessional counseling. Professional deals with complicated psychological problems but the nonprofessional counseling deals with social and emotional problems as they relate to one’s specialty.
